New Home Construction - Plumbing & Heating Finish Work
In the finished areas of the home: sinks, tubs, toilets and other plumbing will be installed, but there is still some plumbing that can't be done at the factory. State and/or local regulations may require all plumbing work to be done by a licensed plumber. (Check with your local building department.)
- Connections between Modules. On two story homes, water lines, waste lines, and heat loops (for hot water based heating systems) from the upper floor must be connected to lines leading to the basement. Access points for these connections will be left open so that the local plumber can make the connections.
- First Floor Connections. All of the supply and waste lines from the first floor, the the first floor hot water baseboard radiators, and all of the lines from the second floor (connected by the local plumber) will be stubbed through the floor into the basement (or crawl space) ceiling. The local plumbing contractor is responsible for all of the work in the basement (or crawl space) necessary to connect the hot and cold water lines to the source, and the drain lines to the sewage line or septic system outflow.
- Water Supply. The local plumber must also connect to the water supply coordinating with either the local water district or the well driller.
- Heat & Hot Water. Whether you choose to heat by gas or oil, using baseboard radiators or other systems, the boiler or furnace, and the hot water heater must be supplied and installed on site by the local plumber or heating contractor.
- Leak Tests. After all connections are made, but before water is introduced to the system, the local plumber should conduct an air pressure test for leaks.
